How to use the Shakti Mat™

Main Shakti Mat Position

The Shakti Mat™ can be used pretty much all over the body. From the spine, the nerves reach all parts of the body - which means that the effect on the back will affect the whole body. Place your Shakti Mat™ on the bed or on a soft surface. Use a neck pillow or a rolled up towel underneath the mat to support your neck.

Lie in a comfortable position so that your skin rests in contact with the points. Relax and breathe deeply. Initially, 10-15 minutes spent on the mat may be enough, but you may gradually increase your sessions to 20-40 minutes. It is not dangerous to spend more time on the mat, or to fall asleep on the mat. Use it when you have time and feel the urge, every day if possible.

We recommend daily use of the Shakti Mat™ for optimum results. As is the case of therapy or exercise, regularity is the key to success. With regular use the deeply held stress and tensions are released and you will experience a permanent feeling of ease.

Cleaning your Shakti Mat™
When required you may handwash your Shakti Mat™ with some detergent in lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly and hang dry. Avoid washing machines and tumble dryers as it may damage the points.

Using the Shakti Mat™ on your travels
Take your Shakti Mat™ with you when travelling, to save space and keep the weight down you may remove and leave the styrofoam at home. If you use the Shakti Mat™ in bed you don't need the styrofoam mattress anyway, as it will be soft enough with the bed's own mattress – which will shape itself to your body.

Positions

Listed below are descriptions on specific "problem" areas of the body. We have modeled the suggestions using a thin cotton cloth as to not offend and preserve modesty.

Stomach
Lie face down on the Shakti Mat™, but please use caution. This can be a very intense, but powerful position. You should be accustomed to back treatment first.

Neck and Back

Place a pillow or rolled up towel under the Shakti Mat™ so that it shapes itself appropriately for the neck. Correctly positioned, it should give support from the back of the neck all the way to the base of the skull. This is very good for relieving tension in the shoulders and in particular for relaxing the Trapezium muscles that runs all the way up to the base of the neck.

Jaw
Lie on the Shakti Mat™ so that your face is touching, rotating to your other side midway through your meditation. If your skin is sensitive, place a thin cotton cloth between the mat and your skin (a towel would be too thick to feel the benefits). Clenching jaw and gritting teeth can be alleviated, and as a result a new shine to the whole face appears.

Knee and thighs
Lie on your side, with the Shakti Mat™ underneath your hip and thigh areas, turning over midway through your meditation. This position

Feet
By standing on the Shakti Mat™, this position works on the reflexology zones which have an overall effect on the body. Using the Shakti MatTM on the soles of the feet improves stability and balance. The feeling of having both feet on the ground increases with this position.
